The Story of Abbott

Abbott Middle School opened on November 10, 1954. Abbott is named for Pansy Jewett Abbott, the San Mateo County Superintendent of Schools from 1925-1951.

Abbott started off with one grade and close to 200 students. Abbott now serves grades 6-8 and has grown to serving 700-800 students per year.

The campus was expanded with additions in 1966, 1971, and 1988.  The last modernization was completed in July 2020 adding a new gym, new locker room facilities and two classrooms.

Abbott celebrated its 70th birthday in 2024 by opening its campus for a community celebration during Abbott's Fall Festival.
