The Abbott Library supports curricular and personal enrichment by providing a continually updated collection of relevant fiction, non-fiction and reference materials.
Reading is one of the best ways to increase success across all curricular areas. Students who read daily increase vocabulary, improve writing skills, enhance memory, and gain exposure to new information and ideas. Reading for pleasure has been shown to reduce stress.
Ways for parents to enhance a culture of reading:
Take family trips to the library or a bookstore
Ask your child about what he or she is reading
Read aloud to your child
Suggest your child read aloud to a younger sibling or even a pet
